“The 100 Sporting Events You Must See Live: An Insider’s Guide to Creating the Sports Experience of a Lifetime” by Robert Tuchman is a self-explanatory title by TriLifer. Rob was on IronTeam 2004 and 2005 before increased focus on his business and growing family made him less visible in training. Rob is very successful sport marketing industry insider. Per Rob: “Ironman came in at #51 and there is a Trilife mention and a quote by Mr. Galitsky ‘It does not have to be fun to be fun’.” Book is already on amazon.com. I am shocked that Ironman was rated so high as a spectator sport event. I have seen many (as participating athlete and as a sideline coach) and now have a fine appreciation of hardiness, tolerance, and tact Ironman observer needs to posses… On the other side, most participants are underdressed, event is free to spectators, and is long enough to allow lunch break, shopping and nap.
Another book that (finally!) caught our attention is “First Triathlons: Personal Stories of Becoming a Triathlete” by Gail Waesche Kislevitz. While published in 2006, it is only now that we discover that TriLife coach Scott Willett has his own chapter (Page 213) in this compilation book of inspirational stories told by athletes about their first triathlon experience.
